Indigo Dyeing with Christine Roberts

Indigo Dyeing with Christine Roberts

CA$120.00

Join Christine Roberts from Modelia for this one-day workshop as we explore the magical, centuries-old technique of shibori indigo dyeing.  You will first learn how to create and maintain an indigo dye vat, followed by exploring a selection of fabric binding techniques and experiencing the impactful and surprising patterns that emerge.

All materials are provided, but participants are encouraged to bring along an additional, modest-sized item from home for dying (ie. shirt or tea towel sized as opposed to bedding or bathroom towels as vat space and time are limited). Item must be of natural fibers.

Dying can be a messy activity, so be sure to wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind staining.

Tea and snacks provided. Bring or buy your own lunch. Maximum 10 people

July 28, 10am-4pm

Christine now operates Modelia, an eco-conscious textile brand, from her home-based studio outside Lakefield, Ontario.  Her products are exquisitely hand constructed dyed using natural dyes, and can be purchase at retail outlets throughout the region.

“The first time I witnessed the magic of dyeing with natural Indigo, I was hooked. I watched the fabric turn from green to blue right in front of my eyes. The fact that this beautiful blue colour had emerged from a plant just amazed me and I couldn’t wait to forage for other plants to experiment with.”
