Meet Make & Mend

Meet Make Mend is a monthly event at Madderhouse for crafty individuals to come together to stitch whatever their hearts' desire in each other’s company. Bring your own materials. There's plenty of room for machine sewing, ironing and cutting fabric, or sitting and knitting while your neighbour mends their favourite sock. If you’re looking to carve out some time in your busy life to sew or knit or crochet or mend a stack of clothes, this might be the perfect evening activity for you. Come join us!

Meet Make Mend is a free event held on the last Thursday of every month. Snacks provided (pay-what-you-can).

Co-hosted by Brooke Erickson and Leslie Menagh. Brooke is a sewist in Peterborough who keeps track of her crafty adventures through MakeShiftSew.com and Leslie is Owner-Operator and Chief Cloth Wrangler at Madderhouse.com.

Wet-Felted Jewellery with Christianna Ferguson

This one-day workshop is an incredible opportunity to design and create one-of-a-kind, felted jewellery pieces with local felting treasure, Christianna Ferguson. Using wet-felting techniques and fine merino roving, participants will learn to build and connect cords as part of the creation of unique and individual pieces. Emphasis will be placed on optimal layout and consistency of the wool to create results both durable and beautiful. Materials included. Tea and snacks provided. Bring or buy your own lunch.

$110 + HST / maximum 6 people

Instructor Bio: Christianna Ferguson takes the simplest of materials - wool, soap, and water - and transforms them into extraordinary textiles that are deliciously bold, intricate, layered, and entirely unique. Through the physical act of making felt her curiosity is continually sparked to explore the medium in new ways. Her work ranges from wearable and costume pieces to sculptural works and wall hangings. Her work often incorporates silk and three dimensional elements that enhance her surface designs. Christianna’s work was featured in ‘The Uppercase Compendium of Craft’ 2015 and in ‘Worldwide Colours of Felt’ TextileLink, 2016. Christianna lives, and practices and teaches in her studio in Lakefield, Ontario.
